Xperia Japan users get ‘Xperia Motion Snap’ app to create own live wallpapers

Japan users always get the cool stuff. Sony Mobile has released a new app called ‘Xperia Motion Snap’ that allows you to make your own live wallpaper through a video of yours. What you need to do is install the app, shoot a short video using it and then Sony’s graphics engine automatically creates a repeated video that can be used as a live wallpaper on your Xperia handset. The image quality and play speed of the video can also be adjusted if needed. The app is free, but as you’ll notice on the Google Play Store it is only available to those with Japanese Xperia handsets (boo!).
Update: Felipe has kindly provided the apk for all to share in the comments section. Download it here.

Sony promotion brings “Xperia exclusive” in-game content

Sony Mobile has launched a new promotion for game developers called ‘Xperia exclusive’. The idea behind the channel is to showcase games that creates unique in-game content exclusive to Sony Xperia smartphones and tablets. What the developers get out of it is visibility across Xperia devices.

So for example, one of the games on the list is Mini Motor Racinghas exclusive in game content in form of an Xperia supercar. Another game, Gunman Clive, introduces a new playable character, whilst MegaCity HD gives Xperia users access to 2X power ups and six additional challenges. So far the above games are the only ones on the ‘Xperia exclusive’ list but more are promised in the future. Keep an eye out on this list for further details.

Extended mobile battery specialist, Mugen Power, has made available a new battery to replace the Sony BA900 battery rated at 1750mAh. Sony Mobile is currently using the BA900 in two Sony Xperia smartphones – the Xperia TX (LT29i) and Xperia J (ST26i/ST26a).

Mugen Power is offering the HLI-BA900SL battery as a replacement which is rated at 1900mAh, a modest 9% improvement over the Sony BA900 battery. The battery is currently out of stock until 12 October and will set you back $44.95 with free worldwide delivery.

Minor firmware update (6.1.A.2.50) hits the Xperia S

It looks like a new (minor) firmware update is rolling out on some Sony Xperia S handsets. New firmware version 6.1.A.2.50 follows the current update (6.1.A.2.45), there’s no changelog and users cannot point to any substantive changes.

We imagine this release brings about a few bug fixes. We’re not sure if this is a region specific release – if anyone has downloaded it, let us know what country/carrier you are on the comments below.

Xperia U Android 4.0.4 firmware update now rolling out

We saw the Sony Xperia go Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update roll out on Sunday, the Xperia sola update started yesterday and now last but not least to the ICS party is the Sony Xperia U. For now, firmware is only rolling out for the ST25a version of the Xperia U, at least for those with unbranded handsets in Australia.

For those with the ST25i version of the Sony Xperia U you have two options: 1) wait for the update, it can’t be too much longer now that the ST25a ICS update is out, or 2) use FlashTool to flash this update to your phone. If you go for the latter, the FTF file has already been uploaded to xda-developers. ST25i users need to make sure you tick the “Exclude baseband” option in FlashTool before updating.

Sony rolls out ICS for Xperia Go, U and Sola

Sony has announced the roll out of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for its Xperia Go, Xperia U and Xperia Sola smartphones. The update is being rolled out globally and hence the availability of the update will differ from country to country. In India, the update is expected to be issued towards the end of the first week of October itself.

Earlier there were speculations that the Xperia Go and U will receive the ICS upgrade in the month of September itself, but Sony has delayed issuing the update for some unknown reason.

Along with the upgraded operating system, Sony promises a whole new experience to the customers of the smartphones with this update.

Apart from the update, a unique glove mode will be released to the Xperia Sola smartphone which comes with Sony's floating touch technology based display. With this new mode, users will be able to use their Xperia Sola while wearing gloves as well, hence there would not be any necessity of special conductive gloves
